MORNING PRAYERS AND BIBLE MEDITATIONS
John Calvin Secondary School is established for the purpose of leading the students in the way of the Lord. The Reformed faith should permeate the teaching and learning of the school. In the second place it is also to ensure that the children are trained very well academically. Therefore the school has her priorities on the Bible meditations daily. The moral instruction day is always planned for both staff and students to sit together to be taught by the Lord. The students and staff enjoy the devotion very much. They see the time of the devotion as an opportunity to study their Bible more thoroughly with each other.
The ministers of God from the Nigeria Reformed Church are always invited to come and preach the word of God to both the staff and the students on Thursdays.
Our major concentration is on the following:
i. Bible reading and meditation: The preachers give more details and deeper meaning from the passage read.
ii. Contributions: Both the students and staff have the ample opportunity to contribute or share what they learnt from the passage.
iii. Questions: The students and staff are allowed to ask relevant question(s) from the topic of the day and clarifications are given by the ministers.
iv. Song: The school choir used to present special number in line with the Bible topic.
The Bible doctrine curriculum for the secondary school is tailored to fit the Reformed faith. In order to actualize the aforementioned objective the school has given the CRK teachers authority to always use the Bible Doctrine by James W Beeke as CRK lessons. The following books are recommended as the instructional materials for preparing Bible devotions and Bible lessons.
1. The Bible doctrine by James W Beeke for Younger Children A and B volumes and Older Children A & B and Teacher’s Guide respectively.

B. Staff Bible Study
The staff Bible studies was done on Mondays in every week of the three terms. The Bible Study was made very compulsory to every teaching and non-teaching staff. The purpose of the Bible Study is to keep the staff united and to grow in their deep knowledge of the Word of God.
Many staff do come for the Bible Study because of its benefit to them. The purpose of the Bible Study is to encourage, strength and to help the staff of the institution in their faith.
